What is a Storyline Developer?
A Storyline Developer is a Developer who specialises in the authoring tool Articulate Storyline. Storyline Developers play an integral role in bringing learning solutions to life, by mastering the innovative functionalities of Articulate Storyline.
What is Articulate Storyline?
Commonly abbreviated to storyline, this authorising tool is a software that developers use to elevate their learning material, to create interactive, immersive and customised learning courses. Storyline is one of the leading authoring tools for eLearning creation.
Storyline Functionalities
When developers master the authoring tool – Storyline, they can rapidly build learning experiences with personalised interactions that are engaging and informative for the learner.
Storyline Developers navigate the tool and its functionalities which include:
Interaction – Add slide layers, triggers, hotspots, sliders and states to offer personalised interactions.
Immersive – Create screencasts, create simulations, add videos in any format, and include audio content.
Engagement – Generate quizzes, and negative scrolling, create real work scenarios to test learners’ new skills, and build insightful assessments.
Visual – Generate images, change poses, and add course characters.
Collaboration – Create shared team slides, and branded project templates, and add In-content feedback with comments and tasks.
Accessible – Translate courses, optimise content to different devices, and publish to different LMSs (Learning Management System).
Responsibilities
Developers take ownership of bringing learning content to life. They work closely with Digital Learning Designers to transform scripts and storyboards into a seamless learning experience.
As well as mastering the functionalities of Articulate Storyline, it is recommended developers understand other supporting digital technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript for customising and styling. Knowledge of SCORM and LMS Management grants developers the ability to merge courses with learning platforms.
It is also beneficial to understand how to create multimedia assets using tools like Adobe Suite for video creation for a creative edge.
The role of a storyline developer requires a mixture of technical and creative capabilities, whilst keeping up to date with emerging technologies.
LinkedIn is a great place for learning tips and tricks from others in the industry, to stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technology. LinkedIn offers a platform for professionals to publish personal projects to relevant audiences, allowing you to get your name out there!
Developers can use LinkedIn to gain experience by contributing to open projects with charitable organisations or offering services to relevant networks.
